The market has moved decisively away from single-purpose builds toward flexible spaces that can transform for every booking — a corporate training session on Tuesday, a product launch on Thursday, a private party on Saturday. And nothing offers a better starting point than a warehouse: high ceilings, open floor plates, industrial character, and structural capacity for rigging that conventional venues can't match.

But the distance between a raw warehouse and a bookable, revenue-generating interactive event space is entirely a technology and infrastructure question. The bones are the easy part. What turns an empty industrial box into a venue people pay premium rates for is the layer of video, audio, lighting, rigging, and control built into it. Here is what that layer consists of — and what it costs in Los Angeles.

Why Warehouses Work — and Where the Demand Is Coming From

The demand side of this equation has never been stronger. Immersive experiences have moved from novelty to baseline expectation — attendees now expect environments they can step into and interact with, not rooms they sit in and watch. A well-equipped interactive venue serves both — and the same infrastructure powers everything. That dual-use model is what makes the investment math work.

The Technology Stack, Layer by Layer

1. Video — The Anchor of the Space

Every interactive venue needs a visual centerpiece, and this is where the biggest design decision gets made. The options, roughly in ascending order of impact and cost:

  • Curved and immersive LED — curved walls, corner wraps, and half-dome or semi-spherical configurations surround the audience rather than sitting in front of them. This is the configuration that makes a space genuinely immersive, and it is the single biggest differentiator a venue can invest in. Custom curved LED requires specialized engineering — cabinet geometry, structural support, and content mapping are all more complex than flat installations.
  • Projection mapping — the flexible alternative or complement to LED. Projection can turn walls, floors, and architectural features into display surfaces without permanent structure, and content can be remapped per event. It works best when ambient light can be fully controlled — which a warehouse can usually accommodate.

2. Audio — Zoned, Powerful, and Clean

Warehouse acoustics are hostile by default — concrete, steel, and glass create reflections that turn amplified sound into mud. A proper venue audio design addresses this on two fronts: a professionally designed loudspeaker system with DSP tuning, and acoustic treatment where it matters.

The system itself should be zoned — main event space, entry, bar or breakout areas — with independent control per zone, routed through a networked DSP platform like Q-SYS.   • Network — modern AV runs on the network. Video distribution, audio transport, lighting control, and show control all ride on structured cabling and a properly designed AV network, kept separate from the venue's business network.
  • Control — the whole system should collapse to a simple interface. Venue staff need one-touch presets; visiting production teams need deeper access. Both are achievable with the right control design, and this is the difference between a venue that needs a technician on every booking and one that doesn't.

One planning note that saves money every time: design the full system before building any of it, even if the buildout is phased. Conduit, power, structural rigging, and network infrastructure installed during initial construction cost a fraction of what they cost as retrofits. A venue can open with the flat wall and add the immersive layer in year two — if the infrastructure was designed for it on day one.
